Four Steps to Break Away from Cultural Inauthenticity.
When you begin to read this article and apply it towards your own life, may I most importantly suggest you remind yourself to be compassionate. As children, we were all helpless and dependent on the survival tactics being taught by the adults in our lives. We are also affected as we grow into adulthood by mainstream media and society itself, as the pushes and pulls towards “success” based on the current norms sway us, resulting in cultural inauthenticity.
As we are moving into Summer of 2021, many of us after barely surviving the arrival and progression of the pandemic in 2020, I am noticing this push-pull effect between the people in society and what really matters in their lives. For some, 2020 really revealed the value of what matters in life. What makes us feel comfortable, secure, stable and happy. While these seem like basic needs for an individual to survive, however as we became a society that’s been caught up in the next Gucci bag, or dating men who only drive the nicest cars and have a loaded wallet, we lose focus on the important necessities. As we become more moolah driven, and create attachments to products and things, we lose connection to what really matters in life, and ourselves. Connection is lost to those basic comforts like a safe home with the people you love, sustainable food and water.
